As a proud fifth generation Texan, mother and grandmother, I have to say that it still warms my heart whenever I receive a personal gift on Mother’s Day. This month, The U.S. Department of Commerce has named Texas the top exporting state in the nation for the seventh year in a row based on 2008 export data. Texas’ exports increased more than 14 percent over the last year, totaling $192.14 billion, approximately $23.92 billion more than 2007. If Texas were its own country, it would rank No. 12 in the world for its gross domestic product.

“Maintaining our rank as the nation’s top exporting state is proof positive that Texas has sound policies in place to cushion it from the effects of an economic downturn,” said Texas Governor Rick Perry. “By maintaining low taxes and reasonable and predictable regulations, business in Texas can continue to flourish, ensuring our ongoing position as a top exporting state and competitor in the global marketplace.” “Most people don’t know that the most popular piece of yard art in Italy is the longhorn steer,” said Barnett. We all love watching Martha Stewart’s Halloween and holiday shows with her great homemade gift and craft segments. Chances are you have tried doing some of those at home like me. When it comes to making something special for my loved ones and clients and ensuring they get something that they don’t already have, there is not time to make everyone a gift basket or homemade item on time. 100 Years of LBJ

August 27 was LBJ Day in Texas. I wonder what he would think of what Texas has become. As a third-generation Texan I learned the finer points of shooting, ranching and hunting from my grandfather growing up. His ranch occupied what we now know at Ft.
